Description
The laborer will perform manual tasks including, but not limited to, using various hand tools and operating mechanized equipment used for building and maintaining county roads and working on other projects as required. In the performance of their respective tasks and duties, all team members are expected to meet the following requirements:
• Consistent, on-time presence at the designated worksite for 40 hours per week.
• Manage workload, ensuring quality and timely completion, while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with team members, county department employees, vendors and constituents.
• Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with co-workers, management, constituents, as well as other state and local elected and appointed officials of Oklahoma County.
• Comply with all confidentiality directives.
• Demonstrate honesty, trustworthiness, dependability, and flexibility.
• Adapt to frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events.
• Requires 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies.
• Perform all assigned duties in accordance with state statutes and county policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform a variety of manual tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel.
• Work closely with other employees with varied levels of experience and ability with minimal supervision.
• Work on assigned road construction and maintenance crews performing manual tasks involving asphalt paving and patching, dirt work, locating underground utilities, crack-sealing, etc.
• Transport and set up temporary traffic control equipment and direct traffic using prescribed flagging procedures.
• Assist with the safe and efficient movement of heavy construction equipment and trucks.
• Clearing trees and vegetation, cutting grass, and installing and maintaining drainage culverts in County right-of-way.
• Transfer materials and equipment from one work site to another as needed.
• Assist with installation and repair of county road signs and markers.
• Complete daily reports detailing hours worked, tasks completed, and equipment used during shift.
• Other related duties as required.
Experience
• Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months of related experience and/or vocational training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education Required
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate of high school equivalency.
