Description

GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the care and maintenance of the Oklahoma County Juvenile Center building and grounds. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the close supervision of the Juvenile Center Maintenance Supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None generally. May supervise temporary employees or community service workers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs skilled and unskilled interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs such as:Plumbing remove and replace faucets, drains, work on commercial toilets and urinals. Ability to cut and sweat pipes and fittings: identify and install pipe fittings, to include pvc pipe. Operate sewer snake to clean drains. Construction; Layout and build metal stud walls, install door frames and hang doors. Hang sheetrock, mud, tape, and finish off sheetrock for painting.Mechanical; change filters as required; replace belts, motors, etc.Electrical; remove and replace switches, plugs, light bulbs, etc. Ability to trace wires and diagnose basic electrical problems.Perform regular maintenance on tools, equipment to include cleaning, storage and inventory.Moves building furniture for carpet installation and when needed for office moves.Performs maintenance of building sidewalks and parking areas, to includepicking up litter, snow removal, and ice removal.Works from all types of ladders and occasionally in confined areas, with required ventilation.Understands emergency evacuation plan for building, and performs duties assigned in said plan. Also takes an active role within the implementation of the plan during emergency situations (i.e. – fire, tornado, and/or medical emergency). On call-status: Must be able to respond (be on site) to calls within one hour of receiving call. Can be assigned to do yard work, mowing, edging, trimming, weed pulling, planting vegetation and mulching.Can be assigned to do custodial duties, empty trash, sweep, mop, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, stripping, waxing and buffing of floors if needed. This job description is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Receives consumable goods, i.e., paper towels, toilet paper, liquid soap, etc., and stores items on shelves 68" in height. Check packing slips of goods shipped to the Bureau to ensure proper product had been delivered according to agreed terms.Responds to complaints of building occupants as directed by supervisor.Performs necessary tasks to control insects and rodents. Repairs small machinery. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Commercial Maintenance experience preferred. Facilities background or construction.Education:High School Diploma Special Requirements:Possession of a valid state driver's license.Must have current verification of adequate automobile insurance coverage.Must have a telephone number where employee can be reached.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.Ability to work safely.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.Ability to understand and carry out instructions. Ability to work independently.Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.Self starter with initiative.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Pickup truck, saws, pumps, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, phones, radios, carpet cleaning equipment, floor buffers and all types of yard tools and equipment to include: mowers, edgers, weed eaters, gas hedge trimmer, rakes, hoes, etc. Any hand or electric tools normally associated with the up keep of a building. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The work environment involves exposure to the general public and potential for volatile situations.The employee may be exposed to high noise levels.
